Over the last several weeks, our development team—led by BigPiggy & Nando—has been rigorously testing and refining the upcoming Geelong upgrade on testnet. Below is a concise technical report on where we stand, the results to date, and our recommended path forward. This post is intended for node operators, wallet developers, exchange partners, and fellow Guardians who need the low-level details.
Current Testnet Results
- 10 MB Block Size
We’ve successfully increased the maximum block size from 1 MB to 10 MB. On testnet, blocks are produced with consistent payloads near this limit, though mainnet merge-mined blocks may exhibit some variance due to AuxPoW timing. - Transaction Throughput & Cohesiveness
Targeting ~330 TPS, our stress tests achieved sustained rates of 120–180 TPS for minimal-size transactions. While peak throughput exceeds 300 TPS in spikes, sustainable performance sits in the 120–180 TPS range—driven in part by merged-mined block timing and mempool behavior. Notably, our mempool self-flushed 120 k stuck transactions at 846 TPS before stabilizing, demonstrating robust handling of overload scenarios. - Merged Mining Bug Fixes
Up-chain patches for Namecoin (NMC) have been applied, and BIP70 support for Bitcoin‐style payment protocols has been safely deactivated, eliminating related reorg anomalies. - Reorg Length Adjustment
We’ve shortened the “Zcash-style” reorg threshold from 120 to 40 blocks. Testnet activation showed zero reorg issues, confirming network stability under the new parameter.
Recommended Deployment Strategy
Rather than a complex BIP9 soft-fork, we propose a simple block-height-based hard fork with 6–8 weeks of advance notice to exchanges, mining pools, and node operators. This approach:
- Minimizes operational friction for pools running pruned nodes.
- Reduces activation risk, since there’s no contentious signaling period.
- Accelerates timeline, cutting implementation from 3–6 months down to ~2 months once community outreach begins.
We’re now coordinating release details with each listing partner and major pool (ViaBTC, F2Pool, Antpool) to ensure all clients ship compatible binaries ahead of the fork height.
Next-Gen Technical Improvements
Looking beyond Geelong, these enhancements will position Dingocoin for further scale and real-world applications:
- Deterministic Transaction Ordering
Aligning with upcoming UTXO-model innovations, we’ll eliminate fee-based reordering to ensure predictable block inclusion and open doors for on-chain applications requiring consistency. - P2P & Mempool Overhaul
Reworking network gossip and bloom filters for higher efficiency, plus adaptive mempool logic to prioritize time-sensitive payments without sacrificing decentralization or censorship-resistance. - ZK-Rollup Integration
Evaluating Dogecoin’s proposal for zero-knowledge rollups to offload high-volume internal transfers (e.g. Flip App business flows) and dramatically boost effective TPS while preserving on-chain security. - AuxPoW Optimization
Continued hardening of merge-mining protocols to reduce orphan rates and further smooth block time variance under mixed-mining conditions.
Geelong represents our largest on-chain upgrade yet—transforming Dingocoin from 33 TPS to an order-of-magnitude faster network, all while preserving the robust PoW security that has defined us since 2021. Thank you to everyone who’s tested, mined, coded, and reviewed. Onward to 330 TPS!
